Day 5 | History of Quebec (History)

Image result for old quebecWe start off Day 5 in our new hotel. We were completely exhausted from last night's activities. We accidentally slept until 11:15 am and missed some our day! We went downstairs for breakfast and quickly left. Today we were supposed to visit Old Quebec. It was only about a twelve minute walk from where we were staying. We got to a local shirt seller to be a tour guide for us.

"Hey. You want a quick thirty dollars? Can you maybe give us a tour of Old Quebec?" asked James. Brian gave James dirty look.

"That's so disrespectful, James!", Vik yelled. The seller then suddenly jumped and stole Vik's exposed wallet. The seller then ran away with Vik's wallet full of money and his ID.

"Hey, come back with my wallet!" yelled Vik. He started to run after the thief which stole his wallet. He tripped over a brick that popped out of the ground. The rustic road made running after the thief extremely hard. A police then came out of a random alley and immediately stopped the seller from running any further.

Vik then ran up and thanked the policeman for stopping the runaway thief. The policeman then told Vik with a stunned eye, "Vous réalisez que votre jambe saigne?"

"What? Google Translate, someone?" asked Vik. Brian, Corey, I (Eddie) caught up with Vik who was looking intensely at his bleeding leg. Brian said he saw Vik hit a stray piece of wire when he was chasing the thief. Vik told Brian to get his phone out and opened his Google Translator app

"Veux-tu mon mouchoir?" said the policeman.

Brian responded with, "he said, 'wish handkerchief?'

Vik accepted the handkerchief and thanked the police man.

After this encounter, we reconvened and headed out to explore more. We walked around Old Quebec, viewing the remains of this antique area. We walked into a local visitor center to learn more about this place. The locals supplied us with information about Old Quebec.
It contains many places of interest such as cathedrals and restaurants as well as historic sites such as museums. We learned that Old Quebec was once a fort that Samuel de Champlain, a french explorer, resided in. Almost everything in the lower towns of Old Quebec are dated back the 16th century and still remain in existence. These are vital for tourist attraction and preservation of its history and culture.

James decided that he had gained enough knowledge so he suggested that we go have lunch. Eddie suggested Indian food but we told him we were on a budget.

He persuaded us to go with him to Royal Tandoori! Although, I did appreciate the tastes of home. It had been so long since I had Paneer and Naan with Gobi Manchurian. Yum! We were full of delicious, home-cooked food so we toured Old Quebec some more. We were so mesmerized by the antiquity of the buildings and how on earth they were still there after all the conflicts which transpired here. After the sun set, we retired to Hilton Quebec Hotel and showered. We were so full with lunch that we decided we would grab a granola bar and binge watch the Harry Potter movies which were on the television. We stayed up until 11:00 having finished Prisoner of Azkaban. Vik bought a book which was $11.00 about the art styles which were adopting in Quebec. He fell asleep while reading it. We reluctantly decided to go to bed as well since were tired and exhausted from touring Quebec.
